Can you volunteer as a Exmouth CAN Connector?

The Exmouth CAN project began in October 2025, following discussions about how we could reach more local residents, have better conversations about sustainability, and support people to take action to protect nature and address climate change.

Our goal is to have friendly, face-to-face conversations on doorsteps and at community stalls to better understand local people’s experiences of sustainable living and their views on climate change. We’ll be asking for their ideas, learning about the challenges they face, and inviting them to complete a short survey to help us identify the most common priorities and obstacles.

For those who would like to get more involved, we’ll connect them with our network of local, environmentally focused community groups and support them to take action on their street, in their neighbourhood, or across the wider community.

In developing this project, we’ve been influenced by evidence showing that most people are concerned about climate change and want to make changes in their lives to reduce their impact.

We’ve chosen a door-knocking campaign because it’s a proven approach that helps bring people together and makes residents feel heard and valued.

We recognise that this topic can feel overwhelming and difficult to talk about — which is exactly why we want to listen. We believe that by connecting people and supporting our community, we can make real progress and a lasting difference.

We have received a donation that is funding a paid project worker to help us deliver this project. The project will run for six months, during which we hope to learn valuable lessons that will guide our work.
